Hundert’s Side tables
Here we see a good example of a client seeing a piece I had made earlier, and tweaking it to their minds eye. Following on from design cues in the larger Hundert’s Cabinet, this time rather than adding onto the timber we decided it would be nice to take sections away.
A much more subtle design has been achieved this way, whilst still maintaining a lot of my signature character and joy in the pieces.
I opted for one simple drawer, deep enough to put a book and some jewelry in on one side. On the other side of the bed, being wary the client wanted to avoid the distraction of their phone, I fitted a cable hole in the back of the drawer, allowing the client to charge their phone whilst also being able to put it out of the way.
I opted to maintain the simple construction methods of right angles and straight lines in the carcasses. I felt it important that the piece maintain a certain level of dignity and honesty.
Due to the similar nature of these side tables to their larger brother chest of drawers, the design proccess was slightly quicker than usual, and after a couple of phone calls and emails I was straight onto the build. From the initial email to delivering the pair of tables, it only took around 8 weeks.
The clients had this to say ‘our bedroom is complete now. Really great to work with Gareth and we are very happy to have such a unique collection of furniture in our room now. Wondering what we might be thinking about next’
