FAQs
Who makes the furniture?
Every single piece is made by me Gareth at my workshop in Manchester. Wherever possible I use hand tools and often like to leave some of those marks in my furniture. I believe in the importance of maintaining these skills and hopefully passing them on.
Where do you get your wood from?
95% of my wood is grown and cared for in the UK. I use small independant timber merchants who I have built great realtionships with over the years. I have access to a fantastic variety of timbers that are always FSC certified. Through buying pieces from myself you are helping to support a whole chain of independant skilled people and businesses in the UK.
How did you learn?
I am almost entirely self taught. I discovered my love for furniture making once I had left school, and growing up in Manchester there are few places to learn. So instead I have spent thousands of hours developing my techniques, and defining my own style, free from the constraints of a specific school or methodology . Looking back I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have developed my own unique approaches that I am very proud of.
How long will my furniture last?
Thanks to the methods I use and the quality of materials all of my furniture is built to last many generations. They are pieces that I hope will stay in your family for many years.
What if it breaks?
All of my furniture is guaranteed for my lifetime. As long as I am capable, if you return the piece to me then I will make any necessary repairs. This however does not include scratches, wear and tear etc.
What if I change my mind?
I cannot accept returns unless there is a fault. As a small workshop it is something I cannot afford to offer. Thank you for your understanding.
How long will I have to wait for my furniture?
When ordering a piece from the shop in a standard size, there is often a chance I will have it in stock already. I always try to make a few at a time, so if you are in a rush it’s worth popping me an email to find out.
Otherwise it’s around a 4-6 week wait.
I would like a standard item but a different size
Not a problem at all, I love tweaking my pieces to meet a specific requirement. Making a stool into a bench, or altering the size of a coffee table etc. Im very happy to oblige, just drop me an email
How do you price your furniture?
I use a calculation that works out all of my expenses, including workshop rent, tool purchases, bills and material costs etc and translate that roughly into an hourly cost. I then add on an hourly wage that I pay myself (the national average wage) so that I roughly make the same hourly rate on every piece I make. Put simply, this is what it costs for an artisan working in the UK to make a piece of furniture from high quality, ethically sourced materials. All my pieces will outlive shop bought pieces of furniture ten-fold. Something that in my opinion is a truly worthwhile price to pay.
