News from the Workshop // Daydreaming of a New Interior

February 2025

I’m just back in from a wonderful drive out to the Peak District where my favourite timber yard is based.

In an enormous barn right next to some oinking pigs and mooing cows is the greatest selection of English Oak you will ever see.

I’m just about to start on a larger commissioned version of my signature piece Hundert’s Cabinet (destination New York, again!). So I’ve bought a whole load of Oak including extra for any future orders coming up.

I’ll be sure to keep you updated with its progress as it goes along. It’s really fantastic to see this piece continue to gain in popularity.

On the business side of things, I’m expanding my team a little so I can focus more on what I love; creating. So you may notice a few changes here and there including this new style of newsletter.

Daydreaming of a New Interior?

As we find ourselves squarely in the deep mid-winter, it’s pretty safe to assume that many of us are spending a lot of time daydreaming.

There’s a sense of spaciousness that comes with the fresh blank page of the calendar year, and the stark silhouette of the leafless branches swaying in the winter wind outside has us reaching for the colour swatch. And hopefully, too, you might find some financial relief in these early months, having gotten through the social obligations and Christmas celebrations that allow our attention to turn inward.

For some, that might mean browsing holidays in hot countries. Or, after spending so much time holed up in our homes, we could be re-examining each wall, each light fitting, and each piece of furniture with fresh eyes, looking to see what’s going to be next in line for a refresh.

Whether you are busy ringing up tradesmen to tear down some walls, deciding to make the most of what you have or are actively on the lookout for a new home, there are some things you can get started with right away. And you may have guessed it, but furniture shopping is like the new capsule wardrobe. Think of it this way: a capsule wardrobe focuses on a few key pieces that can be mixed and matched for endless stylish combinations. Similarly, investing in well-crafted, bespoke furniture allows you to create a cohesive and personalised living space that reflects your unique style.

Maybe you are dreaming up a bold new colour, or perhaps it’s time to throw out the ill-fitted furniture for something that’s built to last. Unlike mass-produced furniture that might last a few years, bespoke pieces are built to last generations. You choose the materials, the design, and the finish, ensuring that every piece perfectly complements your home and lifestyle. It's an investment in quality, sustainability, and a truly unique living space.

What I’ve been into lately…

📺 Watching: Nosferatu (2024) - it’s actually a bit boring and not very scary, I prefer the original.

🎙️Listening to: Arthur Russell's Love is Overtaking Me. This guy is a multi-talented musician making his one and only country album, its great music to drive to.

📖 Reading:  Kevin Barry's The Heart in Winter, this is a really magical story set in gold rush America in the 19th century. It’s about two ill-fated lovers going on the run to San Francisco, beautifully written yet a nice easy read.
